Author Dennis McAuliffe Jr grew up believing his Osage Indian grandmother had died an early death from kidney disease. Her death possibly engineered by his grandfather was a victim of the "Osage Reign of Terror", a systematic killing spree in the 1920's when white men decscended upon the oil-rich Osage reservation to court, marry, and murder Osage women to gain control of their money.
